Sad news everybody, unfortunately I woke up this morning and found a cat dying in my garden.
This particular cat is known to me. It has been living in my garden for years, it sits at the back of my garden during the day and then in the evening it goes home to whoever owns it.
Lately, the poor things been looking a little slow and I realised that it’s getting old now. So I said to myself if ever it looks like it’s not coping, I will definitely pick it up myself and take it to the vet.
Sadly, that day came today. It was sitting on the path, convulsing, fitting and it collapsed twice and was suddenly still and to be honest I actually thought it had died and then it got up. I called the RSPCA but they didn’t pick up but I got through to the vet however and narrated everything I just told you as it was happening.
The vet told me to pick up the cat and get it there and that’s what I did. On the way there, I honestly thought it was going to die and I kept on looking in the animal crate that I already had because I have a small dog and I just kept checking to make sure it was breathing. The cabbie done fast so the cat could get to the vet as soon as possible because he realised how sick the cat was, after I gave him an explanation of what had happened. He understood because he was a cat owner himself.
I got the cat to the vet and the vet asked me to fill out some paperwork which involved me surrendering the animal to the vet because I did not know who the cat belonged to, I just reasoned that it was a neighbour.
The vet asked me to walk around the local area to try and find the owner and I did. I knocked on lots of doors and eventually found the owner and had to give the owner the bad news about how ill their pet was and the whereabouts of the cat.
It’s between the owner and the vet now, I hope it can pull through, however, the cat is elderly so likely at the end of its life anyway.
It just reminds me that we have to be very grateful for what we have and we have to make sure we are in the right place at the right time, making sure we are wherever God wants us to be because you don’t know no when your particular skills and connections may help you to save a life. I was in the right place, at the right time and about God’s business and that’s why I was able to help the cat and God cares about the animals too. We know this because it says the following in Matthew 6:27:
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”Matthew 6:26 [NLT]
